Panda Communications Completes Its Largest Catalog to Date


[ Milwaukee , WI – March 2004] Panda Communications, Inc., a leading and innovative provider of content development, catalog production and E-commerce solutions, continually raises the bar in custom catalog creation. Its latest accomplishment was the completion of a Safety/MRO catalog of approximately 1,600 pages for a large Industrial/MRO/Safety distributor nationally headquartered in South Carolina .

Because of Panda’s reputation to “Make It Happen,” Panda’s team was called upon to do just that. The catalog was completed in only nine months, record time for a catalog of this size and scope.

Approximately one quarter of the catalog includes a four-color safety products section and a color ad insert. The remaining three quarters feature an industrial section that is in black and white with several colored tabs. Additionally, the safety products section was printed as a stand-alone safety catalog, with content provided by Panda’s comprehensive safety content library.

The safety products section included a Domestic Preparedness category, spanning approximately 24 pages. As a result of industry demand, the Domestic Preparedness section has now been spun off into its own stand alone catalog.

Panda began the catalog by building its own database that allowed catalog coordinators to manage and create content on Panda’s proprietary management software. Simultaneously, Panda uploaded content back into their distributor’s database through a program that Panda designed. The client’s employees had access to the database through a remote connection and were able to help in the catalog building process. In addition, Panda created an Intranet site, driven by several Panda-built databases, which allowed the client’s employees to easily communicate with team members and to monitor content creation. A key feature of the Intranet site gave manufacturers the ability to proof their content online, thus expediting the approval process.

Panda’s president Kellie Hoffmeister said, “I’m very proud of this book, and of my staff for finishing it. This project is by far one of the largest ones we have completed in our nine-year history. We had to overcome many hurdles and client technical problems to even complete it, let alone in nine months. But we refused to let anything stop us, and in the end, through hard work and sheer force of will, we triumphed.”
